The attention of the management of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has been drawn to a purported online fake news, stating that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu held a meeting with the executive of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at an unstated date, time and venue.

The LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olajide Oduyoye has unequivocally stated that the contents of the news which states that traffic officials particularly LASTMA have been banned from apprehending traffic law violators but only control traffic.

Oduyoye further avered that he is not aware of the governor’s meeting with the executive of NURTW which would have by necessity included LASTMA at any point in time.

The General Manager also said that the Governor having full knowledge of the provisions therein in the 2018 amended traffic law will not make pronouncements contrary to the law.

He recalled that upon the present administration’s T H E M E S agenda, Transportation and Traffic Management plays a prominent role, Mr. Governor stated that if any member of his family or cabinet member run foul of the law, such violator should face the consequences.

Oduyoye hereby advises the public to ignore and disregard the fake news designed to confuse and hoodwink motorists into breaking our traffic laws and still hope to get away with it without any consequences.

That shall not happen. Let the general road users be guided.
