Students of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo Campus, have condemned the murder of their colleague by suspected cult members on Thursday.
BlackBox Nigeria had reported that the deceased identified as Babatunde Akeju, a National Diploma One student of the institution, was shot dead outside the school gate.
Circumstances surrounding his death, however, are still controversial as sources from the campus stated different versions of the incident.
While some claimed that Akeju was killed by suspected cult members following a recent fight that ensued in the school, others said he hurried to the school to scamper for safety but pushed back by the security guards at the entrance.
Some students who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity narrated the unfortunate incident, while expressing their grief.
“Tunde is an NDII student of Mass Communication Department (SPTR-D), which he was around was around for their Departmental week yesterday. He was chilling under the school tree yesterday with his girlfriend when he said he wants to leave and was starting to be unease.
“So Tunde left the school premises with his girlfriend. Lo and behold, he was being chased from Isolo underbridge. On getting to the school gate, he was stopped by the school security team on duty. Then he was shot beneath his ear by unknown gun men,” said a student of Business Administration department.
Meanwhile, the aggrieved students have indicated readiness to protest against the security personnel of the school for sending back their colleague who was in danger.
While the school management is yet to react to the incident as at time of filing this report, the Student Union Government (SUG) has released a statement, advising students to stay safe and calm.
“Please students should vacate the school premises immediately after lectures.
“Do not be afraid of the mobile police in front of the school as there are there for our own safety and please do not get into any form of argument with the securities while checking you into the campus.
“Lastly, don’t engage in any form of gathering to the extent of protesting. Thanks in anticipation,” the statement read in part.
