In an uncommon gesture, the recently crowned ‘Young Person of the Year’ at the maiden Lagos Youth Awards, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende has donated a newly built house to the family of Mr Felix Fagbeji.
Fagbeji, a cotton weaver, had lost his house and properties to a fire outbreak which occured at Sakpo community in Badagry area of Lagos, on December 17, 2021.
When he visited the community about five days later, Ogunlende who is the Pioneer of Real Acts of Kindness (RAK) Development Foundation, a non-profit organization, had promised to build a new house for the affected family before the end of 2021 and hand over to them as soon as completed.
True to his words, the philanthropist commissioned the newly built house and handed over its keys to the Fagbejis on Friday, January 14.
Speaking at the presentation, Ogunlende described the intervention as a testimony to the family, stressing the need for such philanthropic gestures to continue.
He said, “Everyone of us should learn one thing from the incident, if we sit and think we will realize that there is a living God who will always help his children. Though God will not come down to do it for you but He will always send people to assist you. Today we are here to commission the house so that the owner can start to live in it.”
Expressing his gratitude for the building, the visibly excited Mr Fagbeji thanked Ogunlende for putting smiles on the faces of his family, saying the community would never forget what he had done for them.
Ogunlende, whose philanthropic interventions and youth-focused projects in Badagry and Lagos State at large have earned him numerous local and international awards, recently emerged as the ‘Young Person of the Year’ at the maiden Lagos Youth Awards held on December 26, 2021.
