Lagos to employ tourism officers in 20 LGAs, 37 LCDAs

The Lagos State Government is set to employ tourism officers in the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state.

This was contained in letter dated 30th September, 2021 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mrs. Mobolaji M. Daba.

It read in part, “This is to notify for general information that approval has been granted for the establishment of Tourism, Executive Officer (Tourism) and Tourist Guide cadres in the Unified Local Government Service of the State. The Officers to be absorbed into the 3 nos New Cadres will be deployed to Head or Assist, as the case may be, in the newly created Tourism Units that are billed to take-off in all the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the State in due course.”

Requirements for the Tourism Officer Cadre include a first degree in Arts, Tourism or Social Science obtained from a recognized University, while possession of a recognized master’s degree in Tourism will be an added advantage.

Officers to be re-designated as Executive Officer (Tourism) must be Executive Officer (General Duties) and possess an Ordinary National Diploma and/or Higher National Diploma in Tourism, Social Work or Catering and Hotel Management from a recognized institution.

For the Tourist Guide Cadre, officers to be re-designated as Tourist Guide must fulfill certain conditions. They must be Clerical Officers/Assistants in possession of evidence of Completion of a full course in a government-approved Secondary School Certificate.

Other requirements include a Junior Secondary School Certificate and West African School Certificate (WASC/SSCE) or General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) with three credits passed at one sitting or four credits at two sittings.

“For all the aforementioned Tourism Cadres, a general interest in the Tourism, Hospitality and Entertainment Sector by Officers will be an added advantage. Interested Officers are advised to make themselves abreast of the specific duties of the Tourism cadres as provided in the Schemes of Service of the Federation of Nigeria (Revised to 1″ May, 2000),” the letter added.

Eligible officers are to apply for re-designation in writing and their applications should be addressed to the office of the Permanent Secretary Local Government Service Commission. Deadline for submission is Friday, October 15, 2021.
