Deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr Kadiri Hamzat, on behalf of Lagos State government has pledged to build a secondary school in Lambo Lasunwon, Ikorodu North, following an appeal from community leaders during the commissioning of the Lambo Lasunwon Road. The new school is expected to address the growing concerns over the safety of children who currently travel long distances for education.

Honourable Sunday Olusanya, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and Chairman of the Joint Community Development Association (CDA), was at the forefront of this request, emphasizing the need for a local secondary school. He noted that the community had already acquired one hectare of land for the project but needed government support to make it a reality.

“Our primary school graduates are forced to travel far for secondary education, which puts their lives at risk. We have secured land for the school, and we appeal to the government to help us develop it,” Olusanya said.

During the event, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadiri Hamzat, assured the community that their request for the secondary school would be considered during an upcoming executive council meeting. He praised the community’s initiative in securing land for the school and stressed the importance of local input in driving development.

“You have one hectare of land and the documents? By God’s grace, it will be done. We will discuss this at the executive council meeting,” Dr. Hamzat said.

The commitment to build a secondary school is part of the state’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure in Ikorodu North. Community leaders, including Prince Adeniran Ogunbanwo, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), have also called for the construction of a polytechnic and a pedestrian bridge along the Shagamu-Ikorodu road to enhance safety and access to education.

Dr. Hamzat acknowledged these additional requests and promised that the government would look into them. He highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety of children, particularly in areas where students are at risk of accidents due to inadequate road infrastructure.

“The pedestrian bridge is highly desirable, especially for the safety of our children and students, and we will look into it,” Dr. Hamzat added.

As part of his remarks, Dr. Hamzat also addressed local landlords, urging them to keep rent affordable for students, especially as the area continues to develop and attract more residents.
