Despite being in shock, the Lagos State Government has disclosed how Mr Deji Tinubu, Special Adviser to the Governor died on Thursday while playing football with his colleagues.

According to the statement released by the State Government through the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan, late Deji who was a Sports Analyst slumped while playing a 5-aside football match with other participants at the ongoing Retreat of Members of the State Executive Council and Permanent Secreatries at the Jubilee Charlets, Epe.

The statement also revealed that medical officials, which included Doctors and Nurses at the sporting ground immediately rushed to give him first aid before been taken to Genera Hospital, Epe, where he was then confirmed dead.

Bamigbetan said, “We are still in shock. All of us at the State Executive Council are in disbelief. He was a good and committed patriot who brought his passion to his job. He was a gentleman who maintained excellent team spirit. We shall miss him.

The Commissioner for Information also disclosed that the State Government have reached out to late Deji’s immediate family to commiserate on the huge loss to the Tinubu family and citizens of Lagos State. He added that while an autopsy is expected to be carried out on him, burial arrangements would be announced by the family.

Late Deji, who was the son of one Nigeria’s foremost Police Officers, late Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu was Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports and also Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission until early January 2018 when he was re-appointed as Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce and Industry.

He is survived by his mum, Chief Bintu Tinubu, Iyalode of Lagos, and wife, Mrs Yemisi Tinubu.
