The Lagos State Wushu Kungfu Association has emerged 2nd in the first-ever Inspector General of Police Wushu Kungfu Championship, as it won 5 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals in the competition.
This news was made known by the Secretary of the Association, Mrs Adetuyi Funmilola, to BlackBox Nigeria in a statement, on October 31, 2021.
According to Adetuyi, Lagos State registered 13 athletes, comprising of both male and female, for the national championship which kicked off on October 27, 2021.
It was gathered that, Lagos State registered for Sanshou and Taolu events categories.
Present at the closing ceremony/Award presentation to States/Clubs in the Championship on October 28, 2021, held at Badminton hall- Police college in Ikeja, was the Chairman of the Association, Mr Kamardeen Oyeboh and other dignitaries.
The final results of the competition revealed that:
1. The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) came in 1st position with 15 points–5 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 bronze Medals.
2. Lagos State was in 2nd position with 13 point–5 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 bronze medals.
3. Chi KungFu Club came in 3rd position with 4 points– 1 Gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, other states and clubs that participated in the competition were: Sam Kungfu, Young Shaolin, Delta, Oyo, Ogun and Edo States, WUDAN and Ejim Martial Arts.
Commending the commitments of the athletes, the Chairman of Lagos State Wushu Kung Fu Association, Kamardeen Oyeboh said he is proud of the athletes for putting the Lagos State Sports Commission and Lagos State in positive light.
“I commend our athletes, despite our meagre resources, they have been putting the Lagos State Commission in good light. At the just conclude Youth Games in Ilorin, Wushu Kung Fu was well presented with medals.”
“I call on well meaning Lagosians and sport lovers to show more support for Wushu Kung Fu in the state,” he said in a chat with our correspondent.
