Kenyan woman kills husband during argument over text messages

A Kenyan woman, Cyndy Trinic, has been arrested after she allegedly killed her husband in a brawl over text messages.

According to reports, Trinic allegedly stabbed her 31-year-old husband identified as Charles Okoth Onyango to death during a fight over a mobile phone at a bar in Homa Bay county, Western Kenya.

The police in Homa Bay arrested the suspect on Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses said the deceased — who was a government employee — walked to the bar located along Homa Bay-Kendu Bay Road and ordered some drinks.

A woman, which later turned out to be his wife, joined him where he was seated and they both started drinking.

An argument would ensue between them after the suspect asked for Onyango’s mobile phone with the intention to read his text messages. The deceased was said to have declined, which angered Trinic who in response withdrew a knife from her handbag and stabbed him.

Confirming the incident, Homa Bay town location Chief Joshua Ochogo said the couple was acting under the influence of alcohol.

Homa Bay Sub county Police Commander Sammy Koskeyi also said investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The suspect is in custody as investigators look into what led to their disagreement,” he said.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased have since been taken to Homa Bay County teaching and referral hospital mortuary.
