The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris has received a temporary transfer of power from President Joe Biden to act as President in his stead.

The White House claimed that President Biden was under anaesthesia for a routine colonoscopy for one hour and 25 minutes.

The transfer of power was contained in an official letter signed by President Biden and sent to The President Pro Tempore, Patrick Leahy, Friday, November 19.

The letter read, “Today, i will undergo a routine medical procedure requiring sedation. In view of the present circumstances, i have determined to transfer temporarily the power and duties of the office of the President of the United States of America to the Vice President during the brief period of the procedure and recovery.”

Affirming that the order is backed by the law, President Biden stated, “In accordance with the provision of Section 3 of the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution this letter shall constitute my written declaration that i am presently unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office of the President of the United States.”

“Pursuant to Section 3, the Vice President shall discharge those powers and duties as Acting President until i transmit to you a written declaration that i am able to resume the discharge of those powers and duties,” the letter concluded.

Meanwhile, this is another record set by Vice President, Kamala Harris as she becomes the First female Black Acting President of the United States.

Recall that in January 2021, she emerged as the nation’s first female, first black and first South Asian Vice President in its political history.

White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki had revealed in tweet that while Biden was under anesthesia at Walter Reed Medical Center, Kamala Harris worked from her office in the West Wing of the White House.
