JUST IN: Tinubu wins APC presidential primary by wide margin

It’s now official. The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has clinched the party’s presidential ticket.

Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, polled 1,271 votes to beat his closest challenger, the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who scored 316 votes, while his erstwhile political godson, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo could only garner 235 votes.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan who was pronounced the “consensus candidate” by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, got 152 votes.

It would be recalled that seven presidential aspirants had stepped down for Tinubu before the commencement of voting, a development that immediately put the APC National Leader on the course of victory.

This win means the former Lagos State governor would be facing a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2023 elections.
