Despite claiming God told him he would be president, Bakare scores zero vote at APC primary

The Serving Overseer of Citadel Global Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare has been roundly disgraced at the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The outspoken preacher failed to secure a single vote from the over 2,000 votes cast by the delegates.

Delivering his address on Tuesday evening, Bakare had maintained that he wasn’t stepping down from the race.

The clergyman was President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in the 2011 presidential elections under the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

His decision to join the 2023 presidential race and obtain the APC nomination forms pegged at N100m had attracted criticisms from Nigerians.

Bakare had boasted that he would clinch the presidential ticket of the ruling party with God’s backing, insisting that his presidential bid was divinely ordained.

“I have a destined role to play, when it gets to 16 and I mean that since April 1967. So, it is not about time to die, it is about time to live. So, you are going to be involved to change this nation,” he had said.

In 2020, the pastor had also insisted that just like Joe Biden of the United States, he would become Nigeria’s President.

“There is something called destiny. I am not one to hide under the umbrella of one finger and make ambition look like vision, I do not camouflage. It is not a matter of life and death, but you can write it down. As the Lord lives, and as I am given the opportunity the day will come, like Joe Biden, that I will be the President of Nigeria,” Bakare said.
