The Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja branch, Dr. Hauwa Shekarau, is dead.
It was learnt that she breathed her last in the early hours of Wednesday.
The news of her passing was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the NBA Abuja branch, Prince Adetosoye, on Wednesday.
The statement was titled, ‘Notice of the demise of our chairman, Dr. Hauwa E. Shekarau.’
Adetosoye said, “It is with a sad heart and the highest sense of loss that I announce the death of our chairman, who passed away this morning, 15 September, 2021 after a brief illness.
“I will give further details as to the arrangements and burial plans later.”
The deceased was an active gender advocate, human rights activist and a legal practitioner with over twenty-eight years post-qualification experience in litigation, conflict resolution, social research, women and children’s rights advocacy as well as sexual and reproductive health and rights expertise.
