JUST IN: Fire guts boat in Lagos

Fire has gutted a boat belonging to the Lagos State Ferry Services Company (LAGFERRY), BlackBox Nigeria reports.

It was gathered that the incident happened at Falomo, Ikoyi area of the state, on Wednesday.

According to a video seen by our correspondent, the ill-fated boat went up in flames, though cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), in a statement, disclosed that two boats were actually affected by the fire, both named Lateef Jakande, and Mobolaji Johnson, respectively.

The statement read in part, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire began from a fuel tank of one of the boats, which later affected the other.

“Two crew members were involved in the accident and are now in the hospital after sustaining first degrees burns.

“A combined team of Lagos State Waterways Authority, Lagos Fire Service, Marine Police, and Lagferry Staff were able to curtail the inferno and recover the boat’s remains.”
