Just In: ASUU Suspends 36 Days Old Strike Conditionally

 

Updates reaching BlackBox Nigeria at this moment confirms that the leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities on late Monday September 18th, suspended it’s 36 days old strike after a crucial meeting with some government officials.

BBN however gathered that there’s an attached condition to the suspended strike as the body of lecturers reeled that academic activities will commence till end of October for Government to fulfil it’s pledges.  The Union has directed that all lecturers resume duty on Tuesday, September 19th.

According to a report by Premium Times, a memorandum of understanding was signed by the Union when they met with the government team which was led by Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige, who later revealed that both parties produced, “collective agreement of action” after the meeting.

It will be recalled that ASUU embarked on the indefinite strike and August 13th following a fall out in their agreement with the Federal Government which was reached in November 2016.
