Pastor and Nollywood actor Jimmy Odukoya has sparked conversations about remarriage among Christian leaders after publicly introducing his new wife, Pastor Mo Odukoya, to his congregation.
Odukoya unveiled his wife during a church service, asking the congregation to welcome her as the new First Lady.
While introducing her, the cleric recalled the biblical account of Adam and Eve, explaining that he had been searching for a suitable partner before finding her.
He also spoke about what he described as a “Kairos moment”, saying such moments require people to take action.
The announcement came after Odukoya shared a photograph of two hands wearing wedding rings on social media, triggering speculation among his followers about his marital status.
Odukoya was previously married to Oluwakemi Sade Banjoko. The couple tied the knot in London on March 9, 2013, and had two children together before their marriage reportedly ended in separation.
His latest marriage has raised questions about divorce and remarriage among pastors, particularly because his former wife is still alive.
Reacting to the development, software solution architect and artificial intelligence expert, Tosin Olugbenga, questioned whether pastors could remarry while their first wives were still alive.
In a post on X, he wrote: “Can Pastors now remarry when the first wife is still alive? Is this now a standard?”
The development has renewed conversations about biblical teachings on divorce and remarriage and whether religious leaders should be held to particular standards regarding marriage.
