Jangebe Schoolgirls Still In Captivity, Says Zamfara Govt

The Zamfara State government has said the abducted schoolgirls of Government Secondary School in Jangebe, Talata-Mafara local government area of the State were yet to be released by their abductors.

This development comes after earlier media reports that the students have regained freedom.

According to the state commissioner of information, Suleiman Tunau Anka, the schoolgirls were still in captivity, describing their reported release as “fake news.”

Anka, in a tweet on Sunday afternoon, said efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the students.

“I want to call the attention of good people of Zamfara state, they should disregard any fake news regarding the release of abducted students of GGSS Jangebe by one national daily, it’s not true. But Alhamdulillah the state government and securities are their trying their best,” he stated.

Recall gunmen had in the early hours of Friday invaded the school, and abducted 317 schoolgirls in the process.
