Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has officially thrown his hat in the ring for the 2023 presidential race, as the political permutations grow more intense.
This brings to an end months of speculations surrounding Osinbajo’s intention to succeed his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock.
Following a consultative meeting with governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday, the Vice President officially announced his presidential bid via a recorded video broadcasted on Arise TV on Monday morning.
He also wrote on his verified Twitter page, “I am today, with utmost humility formally declaring my intention to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of APC.”

Judging by this development, Osinbajo will be seeking to clinch the APC presidential ticket alongside the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzo Kalu, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, among others.
For the Vice President, his now-announced ambition might be a test of his loyalty since his former boss and the man who was said to have influenced his emergence as VP, Tinubu is also seeking to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023.
Meanwhile, the presidential primaries of the APC comes up next month, barring any last-minute changes.
