INEC Set To Conduct Rivers Rerun Election In October

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, is set to conduct the postponed Rivers State Rerun Election which was earlier scheduled for July 30th.

Hajia Amina B Zakari, National Commissioner of Operations, INEC while briefing newsmen in Port-Harcourt said the body was fully ready to conduct the election. She said it would have been done in September, but for the Edo State Gubernatorial election set to hold in same month, so they had to shift it till October.

The gathering which consisted of the INEC, political parties, candidates and security agencies was tagged ‘peace meeting’, aimed at settling difference between all aggrieved members of rival parties.

She also used the moment to encourage all the stakeholders to be law abiding and shun violence that may want to deter the exercise.

Rivers State INEC Commissioner, Mr Aneodi Ikiowak, while speaking said that elections will continue to be inconclusive if it is continuously marred by violence and election theft during the exercise. Hence, he warned all involved in election violence to stay off the State during the exercise.

The stakeholders; all political parties’ delegates in the State present at the press conference willingly agreed that they will fully support the exercise and ensure there is peace all through the exercise
