The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the All Progressives Congress candidate, David Lyon as winner of the Bayelsa State Governorship election.

According to the results collated and announced by Professor Faraday Orunmuwese, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, Lyon polled a total of 352,552 votes to defeat his closest rival, Duoye Diri of the People’s Democratic Party who polled 143,172 votes

The final results from the collation centre in Yenagoa revealed that APC’s Lyon defeated the incumbent PDP in 6 out of 8 Local Government Areas with a margin of 209,380 votes.

Incumbent Governor, Seriake Dickson had supported candidate of his party, Diri with a hope of handing over to him so as to have the State under the leadership of the main opposition party, but results released were not in favour. The State has been under the PDP for the past two decades as all former Governors won elections on its platform.
