In Over Six Months, NDLEA Arrests 343 Suspects, Seizes N56.9m Worth Of Illicit Drugs

The FCT Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has conducted a significant crackdown on drug-related activities, resulting in the apprehension of 343 drug dealers between January and now.

During this period, the NDLEA seized illicit drugs with an estimated value exceeding N56.9 million, marking a substantial success in combating illegal drug trade.

Kabir Tsakuwa, the FCT Commandant of NDLEA, revealed these impactful developments in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria held in Abuja.

The arrested individuals, totaling 343, comprised 328 males and 15 females, all involved in various aspects of drug trafficking and distribution.

The illicit substances seized encompassed a range of drugs, including suspected cannabis sativa, cocaine, Methamphetamine, Heroin, Tramadol, Rohypnol, Diazepam, Ecstasy, and Megadon.

Tsakuwa said, “drugs seized included cannabis sativa weighing 3,022.529 kilograms, cocaine weighing 0.114 kilograms, Methamphetamine weighing 1.25 kilograms, and Heroin weighing 0.0021 kilograms.

“Additionally, we confiscated suspected Tramadol weighing 18.578 kilograms, Rohypnol weighing 1.195 kilograms, Diazepam weighing 4.471 kilograms, Ecstasy weighing 0.113 kilograms, and Megadon weighing 0.263 kilograms.

“The combined monetary value of these drugs is approximately N56,903,600.”

Furthermore, within the same time frame, 188 drug offenders faced prosecution, resulting in 126 convictions accompanied by varying jail sentences.

These stringent actions aim to deter drug-related crimes and ensure the safety of the community.

The total estimated value of the confiscated drugs underscores the NDLEA’s dedication to eradicating the illegal drug trade and safeguarding public welfare.

Tsakuwa highlighted that, in collaboration with other security agencies, the NDLEA is preparing for a joint operation within the FCT to address the broader issue of drug abuse. This operation’s focal point is to dismantle potential drug abuse hotspots and shanties where criminal activities might thrive.
