Afrobeats star Davido has fired back at rapper Erigga after the latter sparked an online debate with a post about musicians who built their careers without coming from wealthy families.
Erigga, in a post on X, praised artistes who “don’t come from family money” and had to work for every dollar they earned.
The remark appeared to draw a response from Davido, who comes from a wealthy family but has repeatedly spoken about his own work and achievements in the music industry.
Responding to Erigga, Davido said coming from a wealthy background did not automatically mean an artiste did not work hard to succeed.
He wrote, “Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top.”
The exchange quickly drew reactions from fans, with social media users divided over whether Erigga’s post was a general observation or an indirect reference to Davido.
Davido’s response has since reignited the long-running debate over wealth, privilege and hard work in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
