Iku baba yeye! How 80-year-old Alaafin of Oyo welcomed 3 sets of twins in 8 months

A Yoruba saying reveals that Oyo sets the pace and not follow the trend set by others. For non Yoruba speakers, that’s the meaning of the popular “aji sebi Oyo laari, Oyo o sebi baaba enikankan”.

This is simply the situation of things in the ancient Yoruba town as its monarch who recently turned 80 yet again welcomed a set of twins days after his entry into the octogenarian club in style. The new bundles of joy makes it the third set of twins the Alaafin will be welcoming in less than one year.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi was born 80 years ago on October 15th, 1938 but it appears he isn’t ready to put an end to his own style of procreation anytime soon.

The twins carnival started 8 months ago precisely on February 25th when Olori Memunat was delivered of twin girls. The adorable beauties were christened Princess Adetoun Miya Iradat and Princess Adedayo Maya Hamdalat Adeyemi.

No doubt 2018 is a year of celebration for the palace of the Alaafin as barely a week after Olori Memunat welcomed her girls, the delectable Olori Badirat Olaitan was also welcomed of a set of bouncing baby boys who were named Prince Mubarak Adedamola and Prince Hammad Adeleye respectively.

The naming ceremony of the two sets of twins was held in an elaborate ceremony on April 22nd with Fuji Music superstar, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma on the bandstand.

Olori Memunat and Olori Badirat have over the years established a bond and have turned best friends but many were still left speechless when they welcomed their twins days apart.

People were yet to get over the amazing news of the double twins when news again filtered out that yet another young damsel in the Alaafin’s household, Olori Anuoluwapo had been delivered of another set of twins.
Olori Anuoluwapo welcomed a boy and a girl just a couple of days after the king celebrated his 80th birthday.

While this remains unconfirmed, it is believed that that the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi must have made a new kind of record as the oldest perhaps one of the oldest men to father three sets of twins in one year.

Aji sebi Oyo laari, Oyo o seebi baaba enikankan. Indeed!
