Stakeholders in education and youth development converged in Ikorodu on Thursday, January 29, 2026, for the Alogba Library Reading Session, an event aimed at promoting reading culture and intellectual engagement among young people in the community.
The programme, organised by the Musediq Alogba E-Library & Research Centre under the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG), was held at the Olutusen Onafowokan Ultra-Modern Hall and attracted students, education enthusiasts and community leaders from across Ikorodu Division.
A former Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shamsideen Allison, served as the Library Personality for the session. He led participants in a reading from Chinua Achebe’s classic novel, Things Fall Apart, offering reflections that highlighted the relevance of the text to contemporary society. Students from various schools in the division also took turns reading excerpts from the book, engaging collectively with its themes and lessons.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including former IDRDG Chairman, Chief Tele Oduloye; Vice Chairman of IDRDG, Dr. Mobolaji Olukoya; IDRDG General Secretary, Hon. Fathiu Salisu; IKODASS Chairman, Alhaji Kolawole Olayiwola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Dr. Metilelu Olumide Olushola; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Social Development, Hon. Biliamin OBA. Their presence underscored the growing emphasis on literacy and community-driven educational initiatives in Ikorodu.
Addressing the students, the Youth Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ikorodu North LCDA, Comr. Jackson Adewale A.O, alongside his counterpart from Imota LCDA, Comr. Adebogun Oriyomi Modupe, spoke on the transformative power of reading and the role of young people in leadership and nation-building.
The event was anchored by journalist Kunle Adelabu, while commendations were given to the Alogba E-Library Committee, led by Dr. Olumide Metilelu, with special mention of the committee’s secretary, Mr. Oluwaseun Elesho, for sustaining initiatives that encourage learning and intellectual growth.
Organisers said the reading session forms part of ongoing efforts to nurture young readers and strengthen educational development in Ikorodu Division, with plans underway for subsequent editions.
