Ikorodu Junction Upgrade: LASG Begins Demolition Of Structures Monday

The Lagos State Government has said it will begin demolition of structures along the Right of Way of Ikorodu Roundabout from Monday to Tuesday in preparedness for Junction improvement traffic diversion plan slated for midnight of Friday, 17th September, 2021.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, in a statement, explained that the demolition is divided into phases.

The first phase, he said, would take place on Monday morning (first day) covering CAC Road Junction to Ayangburen Road, while the second phase would cover AP Filling Station towards the inner parts of Sabo in the afternoon.

The commissioner further explained that on the second day of the demolition exercise which will be from morning till afternoon, the process will cover Sabo Police Station, Central Mosque, Conoil and Ayangburen road.

Oladeinde disclosed that though the demolition would not hinder traffic flow as alternative routes have been made available to reduce the pressure on motorists during the demolition exercise thereby sensitizing the motorists ahead of the full project which is to last for eight months.

The alternative routes, according to the commissioner, are as follows:

1. Motorists heading to Ayangburen from CAC, should use Ayedere Owowu road near GTB which leads to Etunreren in order get to their destinations.

2. Motorists coming into Ketu/Lagos axis from AP Filling Station are to use Suleiman Soderu road which leads to Awoshode Street.

3. Motorists coming into Central Mosque and Ayangburen from Ikorodu Police Station are to ply Adeniran Ogunsanya road leading to Sabo Sagamu road.

4. Motorists surrounding Lagos can make a u-turn at Suleiman Soderu road to reach their destinations.

Oladeinde explained that the main carriageway of the affected axis would not be blocked from traffic but the alternative routes are made to give motorists options for smooth movements around the corridor.

He said ensuring the safety of the monitoring public and contractors on site is the reason for dividing the demolition exercise into phases.

The commissioner assured that road signs, barriers and stationed caution guards would be available along the affected sites to maintain traffic flow inbound and outbound Ikorodu Roundabout.

Oladeinde urged the public to cooperate with the State Government in order to achieve a successful commencement and execution of the project.
