As part of its resolve to empower the youth of Ikorodu economically, Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative, IDYI, today Saturday, December 19, 2020, organized a workshop in the areas of vocational skills, farming and entrepreneurship, for young people in the Division.
The programme proudly held at the Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali Hall, Rotary Vocational Centre, Stadium, Igbogbo was supported by the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, and had facilitators like Mr Adetoye Fajimi, a professional Fish farmer and Mrs Adeola Onabajo, Principal Rotary Vocational training center taking the youthful audience through the rudiments of farming and acquiring vocational skills.
Speaking on the ideas behind the 2nd Edition of Ikorodu Division Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development programme, the Executive Director of Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative, Comrade Samson Bisiriyu said there is need to create a platform to allow for guidance and mentoring for youths in the Division.
“We introduce the programme to engage our youths in the street and serve as a form of guidance. Also want to create opportunities of empowerment for hard working youths with financial constraints through our respective elected and appointed officials by providing working tools. As an organization agitating for youths, we feel it is our responsibility to be involved in human capacity development,” Bisiriyu told BlackBox Nigeria.
Speaking at the event the Director General of iCare Foundation, Mayor Muyideen Sanwoola said problems abound in Nigeria and being a problem solver would be one of the things that can make you a successful entrepreneur.
“There’s always one problem or the other in your environment, as an entrepreneur you should find one and proffer a solution to it.”
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr Fatai Abatan,opined that the annual event can only be measured by the number of successful youths emerging from it.
“This empowerment Program can only be successful when we have successful youths emerging annually from these courses to the growth and development of Ikorodu Division.”
Miss Ulieh Fortress Igelle, who was empowered with a sewing Machine facilitated by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, said she is elated by the empowerment because it will help her pursue her dream of owning a fashion house in the near future.
Another participant, Robinson Solomon from Ikorodu said he wants to become a farmer and sees the programme as an opportunity to learn and get noticed by those with the capacity to invest in his vision of ending hunger through farming.
The programme cumulated in the presentation of certificate of participation to all the attendees.
