Ikorodu agog as Folawiyo, other dignitaries grace launch of community security outfit

All roads led to the Ikorodu Ultra-Modern Town Hall in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, the venue for the formal launch and unveiling of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPILG) LTD/GTE and Local Joint Task Force (LJTF), on Wednesday.

The community security outfit which was initiated by the monarchs in Ikorodu Division and chaired by the Chairman, MultiChoice Nigeria and the Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN.

The epoch-making event had in attendance all royal fathers in Ikorodu, political office holders, representatives of government-owned security outfits, among other dignitaries.

The distinguished guest and Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was, however, absent at the event. Business tycoon and Chairman of Folawiyo Group of Companies, Mr Babatunde Folawiyo was the chairman of the occasion while the chief launcher, former Managing Director and Founder of Zenith Bank Nigeria PLC, Mr Jim Ovia sent a representative.

Delivering his speech, Odofin Ogunsanya noted that the initiative was a “culmination of many months of brainstorming and strategizing among key stakeholders of Ikorodu Division towards finding a lasting solution to the spate of insecurity being witnessed in parts of Ikorodu communities.”

The senior lawyer appreciated the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Pulice, Lagos Police Command and the Commissioner in Charge of Training for their massive support for IDPILG and for acting with the training of its personnel.

“We have invested heavily in the training of local security personnel drawn from various local vigilante groups, with a view to creating a command structure that would help coordinate their activities for effective results,” Ogunsanya said.

The major highlight of the event was the presentation of patrol vehicles and motor bikes to the LJTF operatives and security agencies in Ikorodu Division in order to assist them in carrying out effective surveillance of the entire communities.
