Ikeja royal family announces EndSARS panel youth rep, Majekodunmi as new monarch

After an eight-year vacancy, the royal stool of Olu of Ikeja in Lagos will finally be occupied after the Osoja royal family announced Temitope Majekodunmi as the new monarch.

The 33-year-old Majekodunmi was the youth representative on the now-defunct Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS-Related Abuses and other matters.

The Osoja royal family, one of three royal families in Ikeja, confirmed his appointment in a letter titled ‘Letter Of Nomination Of Omo Oye To The Vacant Stool Of Olu Of Ikeja’ and dated January 24, 2022.

In the said letter, the family stated that after a meeting on Sunday, it was resolved that three names earlier submitted to the Ikeja Local Government Area for confirmation should be withdrawn.

They’re to be replaced with ‘Prince Temitope Adebowale Ibikunle (Idowu Aso branch of Osoja)’.

“This is in furtherance to the vacant stool of Olu of Ikeja about which the family had in the past communicated three names: Prince Samsonideen Adeleye (late), Prince Nurudeen Adeleye and Prince Wasiu Adeleye.

“The Osoja Ruling house unanimously withdraws the list earlier presented for consideration containing the names of the three candidates listed above or any other list in the name of the Osoja ruling house,” it read in part.

This comes days after news broke out that one Tajudeen Muritala has been installed the new Olu of Ikeja.

In reaction, the Ikeja Local Government, via a public statement, described the claim as false, warning members of the public to disregard the information.
