IGP sets up panel to investigate killing of civilian during lockdown in Abia State

The Inspector General of Police, A. Adamu, NPM Mni, on Wednesday condemned the glaring unprofessionalism and misuse of firearms by a police operative in Ebem Ohafia of Abia State, who allegedly killed one Ifeanyi Arunsi, 18, while enforcing the restriction on movement in the state.

IGP Adamu has set up a special investigation panel, head by DIG, Anthony Michael Ogbizi, necessary to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the tragic incident, the panel is to review police actions and inactions prior, during and after the death of Ifeanyi.

Blackboxnigeria reported earlier, that Ifeanyi, who received some goods, opened his shop to offload them, only to be confronted and shot by the said police operative.

Upon the tragic incident, youths in the area, stormed the Ebem Ohafia police station, looting and destroying properties, two unidentified individuals were said to be shot dead be SARS operatives during the unrest.

While condoling the family and friends of the deceased, the IGP enjoined people of Ebem Ohafia not to take the laws into their own hands rather allow the course of justice to prevail at all times, noting that investigation into the case will be swift and thorough.
