Legendary Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress Onyeka Onwenu has tragically passed away after collapsing at a birthday celebration in Lagos at the age of 72
Ms. Onwenu reportedly died on Tuesday evening at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after collapsing following her performance at the birthday party of Mrs. Stella Okoli.
According to reports, an eyewitness who was present at the party confirmed the sad news , stating, “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at Mrs. Stella Okoli’s birthday today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after her performance, she collapsed. She was taken to Reddington Hospital where she couldn’t be revived.”
According to News Central TV, she collapsed at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after falling ill during a private function. Sources close to the family reported that Onwenu had been attending a friend’s birthday party, where she performed on stage.
Shortly after her performance, she collapsed while returning to her seat. Emergency responders quickly arrived and rushed her to the hospital on Victoria Island, where she was later pronounced dead. The exact cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
