iCARE Foodbank: Rep Babajimi Benson empowers over 500 constituents with food items
The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Rep Babajimi Adegoke Benson, has dole out food items to over 500 people through his ‘iCARE Foodbank’ scheme, as part of efforts to uplift the welfare of his constituents, in Ikorodu Federal Constituency for the month of September 2020.
The event which took place yesterday, September 19, 2020 at his constituency office on Ebute-Igbogbo road by Solebo gate was done observing COVID-19 protocols.
The lawmaker gave sealed bags containing non perishable items like: rice, milk, tea, sugar, beans, tomato paste, Maggi, and salt that can last a family of four for at least 2 weeks to over 500 constituents.
Rep Benson, while speaking with newsmen, noted that this month’s edition will no doubt cushion the hardship in some homes, believing that once hunger is dealt with, issue of theft and poverty induced restiveness will be reduced to the barest minimum amongst his constituents.
The monthly iCare FoodBank food distribution started in 2016, buys grocery food items and redistributes the items in a bag called AAPO AANU or MERCY BAG to individuals and vulnerable families in need within Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
Members of the public are usually asked to nominate someone within Ikorodu Division that are in dire need, either Elderly, Single Parent, Widow or Physically Challenged, for each month’s Food ration.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the iCare Foundation has adopted a process of observing COVID-19 protocols and social distancing in the distribution of the food bags by using volunteers.
