In an interview with VOA, Kanu disclosed that his return to Nigeria wasn’t necessary as he said it might jeopardize lives of his people. He added that his mother’s death was as a result of the extra judicial torture and killing of the Biafran people.

“I will not do anything to jeopardize the lives of our people for the sake of burial. Whether Iā€™m there or not, my mother will be buried.”
