How to heal from a heartbreak

How to heal from a heartbreak

Elsie Udoh

Ember months are here. In a short while, almost everybody will be in the spirit of festivities but sadly, some will have to deal with the end of their ‘made-in-heaven’ relationship because guys are trying to avoid billing.

Did you just mutter not my portion? You should probably ask Folake what happened to her relationship with the love of her life last winter – it ended in premium tears with her turning back to her WhatsApp status to upload, ‘men will stain your white.’ Or did you forget that ‘breakfast na national cake wey go touch everybody?’

Don’t get me wrong, please. I would not pray for anyone to experience a breakup especially when the relationship seems promising but anything can happen and I don’t want you to be taken off guard.

So, if you just experienced a breakup or you want to wear protective gear on your heart to minimize the brunt of your breakup (just in case), here’s a list of what you should do:

– Lock yourself up in the bathroom, fill the bathtub with water, get into it and cry until your tear glands dry up.

– Eat a bowl of tooth-freezing Cold Stone Ice cream; nothing beats a brain freeze in moments like this.

– Take long walks until your feets hurt (please don’t do this in areas you are unfamiliar with).

– Fall in love with heartbreak songs (as a suggestion, Lost my Lover by Ali Gatie hits the right spot every time!). Yes, get lost in the emotions and be miserable for one week and nothing more. Now it’s time to accept the breakup and move on.

– Start with texting your ex and telling him about the things he did that you are grateful for. After that, get yourself busy with work or anything you enjoy. Be careful not to drown yourself in this.

– Never underestimate the power of wholesome association so go out with your loved ones and spend quality time with them.

– Start and end each day by recounting the list of things you are grateful for in your life and express your gratitude appropriately.

Finally, never seek redress in another relationship. Learn to love yourself and be the source of your happiness before settling in for a new relationship.

I hope you have a relationship that lasts a lifetime.

Enjoy the road to the last quarter of 2022!
