How politician on EFCC wanted-list won Rivers PDP guber primary

The immediate past Accountant-General of Rivers State, Siminayi Fubara has emerged the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for the 2023 general elections.

Fubara, who is said to be the anointed candidate of the state governor and presidential aspirant, Nyesom Wike, polled 721 out of the total 980 votes to beat nine other aspirants in the hotly-contested primary election.

The chairman of the primary organising committee, Walter Mbotu declared Fubara winner having satisfied the conditions of the party guidelines and scored the highest number of votes.

Interestingly, his emergence as the Rivers PDP guber flagbearer comes barely 48 hours after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), declared him and 58 others, wanted for alleged N435 billion fraud.

Meanwhile, Fubara, and four other top officials in Wike’s administration, are currently wanted by anti-graft agency over suspected N117 billion fraud, alleged criminal conspiracy, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds, and abuse of office.

Names and photographs of the five are still up for display on a wanted list published on the EFCC website.

Others named alongside Fubara are Harrisonba Bessi Princewill, Lekia V. Bukpor and Dagogo Rodderick Abere.

“The suspects, in their capacity as signatories to the Rivers State Government account, are alleged to have acted as proxies to several government officials, conspired and fraudulently withdrew and diverted the sum between 2015 and 2018,” the anti-graft agency had written in the public alert.
