With coronavirus shutting down economies around the world, many individuals and corporate organizations have found alternative means of carrying on with their daily activities with many using technology in line with the social distancing protocol established as a means to flatten the spread curve of the virus.

 

And in this part of the world where we are known to celebrate by partying, the shutdown on social activities nearly made us lose touch with who we are. 

 

But for Honourable Abideen Ilelaboye, the Senior Special Assistant on Civic Engagement to Mayor Dele Oshinowo, Chairman Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, a day such has his birthday despite COVID-19 should be a day to engage society particularly young people on how to better the society.

 

When Ilelaboye turned 40 years last year, he organised a two-way plug lecture, one to discuss the roles of young people in politics while the other was for the Islamic faithful as an annual Ramadan lecture for late Alhaja Tawakalitu Ilelaboye.

 

Not to be deterred by the pandemic, for his ”fortified +” birthday earlier in the month, the SSA on Civic engagement and his team called for articles to commemorate his birthday after which 5 young people were shortlisted for their exceptional contributions.

 

Amongst the submissions, Aruna Mahmud Adebayo’s article titled “Unemployable Youth A Bane Of Social Development, ” was adjudged the best.

 

In a statement made available to BlackBox Nigeria, the organisers wrote that, ” afterdue perusal of submitted articles to commemorate the birthday of Honourable Abideen Ilelaboye, the Senior Special Assistant on Civic Engagement to Mayor Dele Oshinowo, Chairman Agboyi-Ketu LCDA;  Aruna Mahmud Adebayo has emerged the winner of the Essay Competition Titled: “Unemployable Youth A Bane Of Social Development”.

It started further that the underlisted names completed the list of the shortlisted 5 best entries; Abdulrahmon Sadiq, Yussuf Olalekan, Engr. Abdul Hameed, and Lawal Ademola.

 

The presentation of the winning Cash Prize to the winner was done by Alarape Aliu; while compensatory and participatory token of recharge card of preferred network was sent to the other 4 participants.
