Korean smash hit Netflix series, ‘Squid Game’ is set to begin its second season.
Netflix announced this on Sunday with a letter written to fans by the show’s writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk.
‘Squid Game’ became a global phenomenon upon its release last year. The dystopian series revolved around a competition, which lures in common people who are in debt and promises them a huge cash prize upon winning a set of children’s games that are well known in South Korea. However, the consequences of losing is death.
“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever,” Dong-hyuk was quoted to have said.
On your marks.
Get set.

He also revealed that the show’s main character, Seong Gi-hun played by actor Lee Jung-jae will return in the second season.
“And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round,” he said.
Though the director added that the Season 2 is already in the works, its release date has not been announced yet.
