Gunmen Invade Palace, Abduct Ekiti Monarch

The monarch of Ilemosho-Ekiti, in Oye Local Government of Ekiti state, the Obadu of Ilemosho, Oba David Adegboyega, on Thursday, was abducted by unknown gunmen.

According to The Nation, the assailants around 8.30pm invaded the palace situated along Isan-Ekiti — the hometown of Governor Kayode Fayemi.

It was learnt the kidnappers, numbering four, gained access into the palace through the fence, fired shots into the air and whisked away Oba Adegboyega. The monarch’s family members were beaten in the process.

“They were asking after the monarch, which showed that they really came for him and not any other person,” the newspaper quoted a community source as saying.

“Immediately they sighted him, they dragged him and took him out of the palace.”

Confirming the development, the spokesman of Ekiti Police Command, ASP Sunday Abutu described it as “unfortunate and regrettable”, adding that the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tunde Mobayo, had ordered a serious manhunt for the kidnappers to rescue the monarch and arrest his abductors.
