Residents of Uso Via Owo in Ondo state were thrown into disarray yesterday when a Policeman shot dead a truck driver over alleged N50 bribe.

Blackbox Nigeria gathered that the policeman was manning a checkpoint at Uso junction in Owo Local Council Area in Ondo.

Investigations revealed that the yet to be identified truck driver was said to be moving vehicles from Tincan, Apapa, Lagos to Uso Via Owo where he had some disagreement with the policeman.

“Immediately he got to the checkpoint, the policeman asked him to ‘settle’ them, this was what led to the serious disagreement.

“Before we knew it, they tried to drag him down from the vehicle but he refused and one of the policemen shot him on the forehead.

“They all fled after killing him”, one of the sources said.

Blackbox Nigeria learnt that the gruesome killing of the truck driver led to a protest by some angry youths in the area.

The protesting youths were said to have mobilized and blocked roads in the area for hours.

Femi Joseph, the Spokesperson for the police in the state, said the defaulting policeman will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“The Ondo State Police Command regrets the unfortunate incident leading to the death of a truck driver whose identity is not yet known.

“The Command condemns this barbaric and gruesome murder in its entirety while we commiserate with the family of the deceased”, Femi said.
