Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as his preferred successor ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The governor announced the endorsement in a statement issued on Tuesday after what he described as “extensive consultations with party structures and leadership.”
AbdulRazaq described Yahaya Seriki as “young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded,” adding that the APC chieftain possesses the political strength and goodwill needed to sustain the party’s dominance in the state.
“I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the governor stated.
He said Seriki has remained a strong political mobiliser with “profound investments in and extensive goodwill among the people of Kwara State,” expressing confidence in his capacity to lead the state.
The governor, however, clarified that the endorsement does not stop other aspirants from participating in the party’s primaries.
“While this does not in any way preclude all other aspirants from contesting in the primaries, I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity, and continuous success of the party,” he added.
AbdulRazaq also stressed that the decision should not be interpreted as a rejection of other governorship hopefuls, noting that all the aspirants are qualified.
“In a race involving some 16 great minds for one office, only one person can take the shot at a time,” he said.
The governor commended the aspirants for what he called their discipline and commitment to building on the achievements of his administration over the past seven years.
Meanwhile, talks are going on in town on the acceptability of Kwara Central Senator, Saliu Mustapha, Speaker Yakubu Danladi who are also vying for the position. While this endorsement signals a potential candidates, people are now looking upto whether the primaries will hold or not.
