Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have been crowned winners of the U-17 WAFU B tournament after beating their counterparts from Burkina Faso 2-1 in the final match on Friday night.
The thrilling game played at the Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana saw the five-time world champions add another trophy to their cabinet.
A brace from Abubakar Abdullahi was all the Golden Eaglets needed to beat the Young Stallions who could only secure one goal.
Abubakar opened the scoring line in the 22nd minute after perfectly heading Emmanuel Michael’s cross into the back of the net.
The unrelenting Burkina Faso managed to grab an equaliser in the 41st minute of play through Abdulramane Ouedraogo, ending the first half at 1-1.
Just three minutes into the second half, the Eagles restored their lead after Abubakar netted his second goal of the game — which eventually ended in favour of Nigeria.
Both Nigeria and Burkina Faso have already qualified for the Africa U17 Championship billed to hold in Algeria next year.
