Going Tech! Sen Abiru Shares Account Of 2-year Stewardship Via Text Message, Seeks Support Of Constituents

Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru has seek the support of Lagosians in the East Senatorial Distict in a unique way as he got across to almost every substantial member of the public, via text messages regaling them with his account of stewardship in the last two years.

The senator, this week, broadcasted his 2-year stewardship report to convince Lagosians in the east Senatorial Distict to support him again, for him to be re-elected.

The text message that was made available to BlackBox Nigeria by several constituents in Lagos East had the senator soliciting for support towards his re-election to the Upper legislative chamber.

The 45 characters text message which went viral during the week got residents talking about the unique approach of reaching them as the text had a Pdf file link attached detailing all the activities carried out by the Senator.

Recall that Senator Tokunbo Abiru joined the Red Chamber on December 5, 2020, when he contested for the bye-election of Lagos Senatorial East under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) Party, and won the election with 89% of the total votes cast to become a Senator of Federal Republic of Nigeria, after the demise of Senator Bayo Osinowo “Pepper”.

In the broadcasted report, he mentioned the things he has done while in office, as he noted that, he fulfilled all promises made by him.

He also noted that through the TOKUNBO ABIRU CONSTITUENCY TEAM, TACT, he achieved most of his goals.

He noted, “My dear constituent, It is with a great sense of duty and responsibility that I write to solicit your kind support for my re-election as the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the 2023 General elections.

“Since my assumption as the Senator representing Lagos East, I have strived to provide effective and quality representation with integrity, passion, loyalty and commitment leveraging all the experience, competences and relationships that I have garnered over three decades as an economist, chartered accountant, banker and CEO.

“In spite of the limitation of time and personal resources, I have in the last two years, as a Senator, vigorously pursued the fulfillment of my mandate and the promises I made to our people under three broad pillars.

He therefore listed the pillars to be, Legislative Pillar, Endowment Pillar and Empowerment And Facilitations Pillar.

Under the Legislative Pillar he said, “I have sponsored about 12 bills and 4 motions including the high impact Copyright bill 2021 (Repeal and Re-enactment) which has been passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and the Franchise Regulation Bill 2022, which has gone through public hearing.

“I moved the motion to expedite on-going rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Shagamu road and the effort I made led to the fast-tracking of the rehabilitation of the road from the 22% achievement it was in October, 2021 to its current 80% with its completion expected by December, 2022.”

He also said he aided, under the education sector, “Four blocks of 24 classrooms with compliments of furniture and 16 toilets at Aga Primary School in Ikorodu. 200-solar-powered street lights at the Ikorodu Campus of the Lagos State University of Science & Technology (LASUSTECH). 1 block of 3 classrooms at Ajelogo Primary School. Two blocks of 6 classrooms at RCM Primary School Iwerekun, Ibeju-Lekki.”

Speaking on the Empowerment and Facilitations Pillar, Sen Abiru said the spectator capacity mini stadium has been equipped with football pitch, basketball and volleyball courts in Epe Local Government Area.

He also noted that “Remodeling of the popular ancient Oluwo Fish Market with 240 open stalls, 82 lock-up shops, 5 open floors and 12 toilets in Epe Local Government Area” and “Supply and installation of 18 transformers in different Communities in the senatorial district,” has been done.

On empowerment, he said he had instituted many economic programmes to improve the economic livelihood of “my constituents”.

He wrote, “Through my Foundation, the Tokunbo Abiru Constituency Team (TACT) Foundation, I partnered with Co-creation Hub (Cc-HUB), a renowned innovation & technology, and social capital enterprise company based in Lagos, to set up a Community Innovation Hub, known as Constituency Intervention Revolving Loan
for the benefit of MSMEs at a single digit interest rate of 6% Per annum.

“Capacity training for 1000 MSMEs in partnership with FATE Foundation and Standard Chartered Foundation. Financial grant of N50, 000 each to 1,250 market women to support their businesses across the 16 LGAs/LCDAs in the district.”

He therefore urged lagos east Senatorial district people to vote him in again to continue his legacy.
