The quest to occupy the Ikorodu Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly appears to be getting more intriguing as the son of a former Lagos State deputy governor and Apex Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu Division, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, joins the race.
The new kid on the block, Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo better known as OGA, once served as the Sole Administrator of Ikorodu Local Government.
The official unveiling of his aspiration was done at his father’s residence in the Solomade area of Ikorodu, Lagos, on Thursday.
The event had in attendance the three local government chairmen in Ikorodu Constituency I — Hon. Wasiu Adesina of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju of Ikorodu West LCDA, and Hon. Adebisi Banjo of Ikorodu North LCDA.
Other dignitaries present were the Chairman of the Ikorodu APC, Otunba Tijani Jimoh; the Lagos East APC Woman Leader, Mrs. Wunuola Osinowo; the three APC LGA chairmen; councillors and supervisors; APC ward executives; members of the OGA 2023 campaign team as well as party faithfuls.
Speaking on behalf of his counterparts, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina pledged their support for Gbolahan Ogunleye, saying there is no better time to repay his father who had supported countless number of people to attain political offices.
“All the three Local Government Chairmen in Ikorodu Constituency 1 are with him,” he said to the loud cheers of party members.
The council boss further revealed that in the coming days, an open declaration and official flag-off will be organised to formally announce the OGA 2023 agenda.
In his brief remarks, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye thanked all party stakeholders for their support, noting that his decision to run for Lagos State House of Assembly is for a greater Ikorodu.
“My focus is to bring more projects to Ikorodu, and support legislations that are in the best interest of our people,” he said.
The event also featured the inauguration of the OGA 2023 campaign team/foot soldiers with members drawn from all the wards and local governments in Ikorodu Constituency I.
