In a last-ditch effort, the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has made moves to stop the defection of a former member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It would be recalled that Jibrin, the Director-General of the Tinubu Support Management Council, on Saturday, announced that he was leaving the APC, saying he was done with the ruling party.
Reactions have since trailed the development, leaving many to wonder what Jibrin’s defection would mean for the presidential bid of leading APC aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
However, Ganduje has waded into the crisis surrounding the decision of the ex-lawmaker, as contained in a statement by the Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, on Sunday.
Abbas noted that the governor had summoned a stakeholder meeting to discuss the situation in the Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency where Jibrin hails from.
“Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has directed the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress to immediately take measures for the amicable resolution of the internal differences arising from interested parties seeking nomination to contest election into the Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency,” the statement read in part.
“To this end, the party secretariat has complied and summoned a stakeholder meeting to discuss the situation in the constituency. An invitation has been sent to all the aspiring candidates for the position.
“Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa has already accepted the proposal and readiness to attend the meeting.”
