Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele has finally confirmed that she is the running mate to the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Olajide Adediran better known as ‘Jandor’.
She made this known in a video shared on her verified Instagram page on Tuesday, explaining the reasons why she delved into the murky waters of politics.
According to the Ikorodu-born movie star, her 25-year career in the Nigerian entertainment industry has given her the privilege to engage with people from all walks of life, and understand the yearnings of the average Lagosian.
Akindele said she accepted to be the Lagos PDP deputy governorship candidate because she saw it as “an opportunity to help liberate and improve the wellbeing of our people, particularly the deprived youth, women and the girl child”.
“My decision is not just to accept this huge responsibility but to also work tirelessly and complement Jandor’s burning desire to see our dear Lagos live up to its full potential with the people as immediate and direct beneficiaries,” she said.
The recently divorced actress also charged Lagos residents especially the youths, that it is time to use their numerical strength to their full advantage and take their rightful place in the matters that concern their lives and future.
BlackBox Nigeria had reported that the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi said he shares no blood relations with the mother of the actress, as claimed in a report by an online news publication.
