The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has revealed that there are two billion liters of Premium Motor Spirit available for consumption, saying the lengthy queues are caused by ongoing road development improvements.
This was revealed in a statement by Mr. Adeyemi Adetunji, Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Limited.
Adetunji claims that the supply of more than two billion liters will last for more than 30 days.
He therefore asserted that the NNPC had planned ships and trucks to go to vacant depots while closely monitoring massive load-outs from depots to states in order to eliminate gasoline lineups.
He said, “the recent queues in Lagos are largely due to ongoing road infrastructure projects around Apapa and access road challenges in Lagos.
“The gridlock is easing out and NNPC Ltd has programmed vessels and trucks to unconstrained depots and massive load outs from depots to states are closely monitored.”
Adetunji asserted that in order to restore order, NNPC retail and significant marketers increased dedicated loading into Abuja as a result of the challenges encountered in Lagos.
“We want to reassure Nigerians that NNPC has sufficient products and we significantly increased product loading in selected depots and extended hours at strategic stations to ensure sufficiency nationwide.
In order to ensure that normalcy returns as quickly as possible, he added, “We are also working with industry stakeholders.”
