Elder Brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Blessing Fubara Snr, has entered the state’s governorship race after obtaining the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) expression of interest and nomination forms.

According to reports, Blessing Fubara picked up the forms in Abuja on Wednesday, just hours before Governor Fubara announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary.

Both Governor Fubara and the governorship aspirant are from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State with reports pointing to both belonging to the same family.

However, it shows that the Opobo-born businessman was also a member of the APC before quietly joining the NDC amid growing uncertainties and tensions rocking the party.

The Rivers State Chairman of the NDC, Success Jack, confirmed that Blessing Fubara is among those seeking the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Yes, he (Blessing Fubara Snr.) obtained his expression of interest form yesterday in Abuja, and we are prepared and still preparing to win not only the governorship election but all the elections in Rivers State in the 2027 general election,” Jack said.

The development comes amid growing political realignments in Rivers State, with reports indicating that some loyalists of Governor Fubara have begun moving to the NDC ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Blessing Fubara’s entry into the race adds a new dimension to the contest for the governorship as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
