More details have emerged about the ordeal of a former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice who are currently charged for organ harvesting in the United Kingdom.
The UK Metropolitan Police on Thursday said the couple both conspired to bring a child to the UK with the intention to harvest organ.
Following an investigations by the police’ Specialist Crime Team, the duo were charged and arraigned before the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court. The court, however, denied their bail applications, and adjourned the case till July 7.
However, the child involved has been safeguarded, according to the police.
Meanwhile, a letter that accompanied the visa application of the victim now identified as David Ukpo has also surfaced on social media.
The document dated December 28, 2021 was addressed to the British High Commission in Abuja, and signed by Ekweremadu himself.
“I am writing in support of the visa application made by Mr Ukpo Nwamini David who is currently having medical investigations for a kidney donation to Ms Sonia Ekweremadu,” the letter read in part.
“David and Sonia will be at the Royal Free Hospital London, and I will be providing the necessary funding. I have enclosed a statement of my bank account.”
As mixed reactions continue to trail the ordeal of the Ekweremadus, a social commentator and columnist, Farooq Kperogi has cleared the air over the notion that the former senator was harvesting organs for the ritual purposes.
Kperogi, a Professor of Journalism at the Kennesaw State University, disclosed that Ekweremadu allegedly flew the said child to the UK to donate an organ for his sick child.
“Ekweremadu’s child needs an organ to survive, and he is alleged to have brought in a donor from Nigeria whose consent he and his wife didn’t seek. Contrary to what people are saying on social media, he didn’t plan on killing someone for “ritual.” Some Naija people no go kill pesin with their their atavistic thinking. Everything is “ritual sacrifice,” he tweeted.
