Former Lagos Military Administrator, Ndubuisi Kanu, Dies At 77

A former military administrator of Lagos State, Ndubuisi Kanu, has died at the age of 77.

Kanu, who was a retired rear admiral of the Nigerian Navy, reportedly passed away on Wednesday, following a brief illness.

His passing was confirmed by activist and associate of the deceased, Joe Okei-Odumakin, to Punch newspapers.

He once fought on the side of Biafra during the civil war that lasted between 1967 and 1970 but was later reabsorbed into the Nigerian military at the end of the war.

Kanu also served as the military administrator of Imo State in 1976.

During the popular “June 12” struggle championed by the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), he was one of the prominent voices seeking for the restoration of democracy. He was also critical of the military junta of the late Sani Abacha.
