Former Barcelona and Brazilian footballer, Dani Alves has been handed a four and a half-year prison sentence by Catalonia’s top court after being found guilty of sexual assault.
The court ruled that Alves sexually assaulted a woman in a Barcelona nightclub back in December 2022.
According to Sky News, the 40-year-old was arrested in January 2023 following allegations that he had inappropriately touched a woman below her underwear without her consent.
Alves denied all the allegations during the trial. The court ultimately found him guilty, delivering the verdict along with an order to pay 150,000 euros to the victim.
Alves joins a distressing list of players like Mason Greenwood of Manchester United, Ched Evans, Sheffield United Striker and host of others who have faced legal repercussions for assault-related offenses.
