The lawmaker representing Anambra North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Stella Oduah has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Oduah, a former minister of aviation, was received into the APC fold at a brief ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday.

Dignitaries present at the event were Mai Mala Buni, APC Caretaker Committee, National chairman; Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy Senate president; Atiku Bagudu, Chairman, Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), and Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma.

Buni promised, while speaking at the event, that she would be entitled to all the privileges accorded to APC members.

In his words, “You will enjoy the privileges enjoyed by all members of the party because you will have a waiver.”

According to Oduah, she joined the ruling party because she wants to change the “political narrative” in the south-east region of the country, adding that her supporters in Anambra are “jubilating” that she joined the APC.

Mr Andy Uba, a former senator and APC candidate in the November 2021 Anambra governorship election, was also present at the event.

Meanwhile, Oduah’s defection comes amid a crisis in the PDP fold. There have been calls by members of the party that Uche Secondus resigns from his position as the PDP national chairman.
