Former Arise News anchor and House of Representatives aspirant for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Dr. Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as political parties gear up for primaries nationwide.

Ikokwu disclosed her decision in a statement titled “A Strategic Realignment for Purposeful Service,” attributing the move to ongoing shifts within the political landscape and the limited time remaining before party primaries.

She acknowledged that the decision was not an easy one, particularly given the evolving dynamics in Anambra State politics, but noted that prevailing uncertainties and realignments made it necessary to seek a more stable political platform.

According to her, the move followed careful reflection on the current political climate and the need to align with a party that supports her vision for impactful representation.

“I had to make a quick and tough decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after careful reflection,” she said, pointing to “uncertainty, shifting alliances, and ongoing realignments” as key considerations.

Ikokwu added that several members of her political bloc had already aligned with the NDC, making her transition both timely and strategic.

She emphasised that her primary objective remains effective service to her constituents, expressing confidence that the new platform would enable her to translate her commitments into tangible outcomes.

The aspirant also reiterated her commitment to accountable leadership, people-centred governance, and development, while seeking continued support from her supporters as she advances her political ambition.
